How Selco holiday entitlement works

Selco’s holiday entitlement is outlined to help employees who are considering joining Selco for comparison with other job opportunities.

Statutory Minimum to Start With

Full-time employees are entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday each year, this equals 28 days of holiday plus 8 bank holidays. GOV.UK shows how much statutory holiday is given to full-time employees, and also shows how much part-time employees are given, including people with irregular hours.

Part-Time and Shift Roles

For part time employees, on variable shift patterns, holiday is calculated on the basis of their contracted hours. So, for example, a three day a week worker would receive 3/5 of the full-time entitlement, i.e. approximately 16.8 days.

Bank Holidays in a Seven-Day Business

Bank Holidays in a Seven-Day Business – As Selco stores are open throughout the week, bank holidays will not necessarily be a day off work. Instead, these will be included within your overall holiday allowance.

Booking and Tracking Leave

Leave is usually requested through a rota or internal system. The length of time for which you can request leave is usually twice the length of the leave that you are asking for. This will be outlined in your contract.

Unused Days at Year-End

Most companies wouldn’t allow you to take a load of extra days off when you leave mid year (although you’re entitled to payment for them) and in most cases they’ll be listed out in your contract or even staff handbook.

If you have read all of the above now you are equipped with all of the knowledge you require to manage leave and annual entitlement for your employees while they are on holiday.
