Having personally experienced a potential mobile phone Scam, I know how easy it is to fall for the very devious tricks that these fraudsters employ! A message came through on my phone on Whatsapp from a number I didn’t recognise but the text claimed that it was a new number that belonged to my son. When I answered the message with “Which one” the reply came back “Your eldest son Silly”. This was followed by several questions from the number, asking how I was feeling, including several cute emoji and advising me that any old numbers for my son could be deleted. I was hooked into the deception by then and honestly thought I was communicating with the oldest child!
If only I had known about professional organisations such as http://www.w2globaldata.com/an-idiots-guide-to-aml-kyc-id-verification/ who could have advised me on AML ID VERIFICATION then I would have known straight away that what I was reading was a Scam! The messages continued in a friendly way, and I even offered advice on not sleeping well! Then came the potential scam, the message said that because of the new phone two work related invoices couldn’t be paid, and would I pay them through my bank, and he would pay me back later.
I logged onto my online Banking App and was just about to transfer the £1,750 through to the account number he had given me when a warning message popped up on my screen advising me the account wasn’t safe. Luckily, I stopped and checked with my son who advised me it was a scam!
