With Black Friday fast approaching, savvy shoppers everywhere are wondering how they can bag a top deal without losing their minds. Retailers are setting out their wares early, enticing us with the promise of low prices, on one of the busiest shopping days in the lead up to Christmas. So how can you shop smart without getting total Black Friday burnout?
Plan ahead
Make lists in advance and categorise them into what you need and what you want. You can use this to decide what you want to look for first; after all, your time on the day will be precious. Your need list can contain must-have gifts that you know you can save a lot of money on. Wants might be something you fancy for yourself should you come across it. You can also make a note of which items you’re happy to compromise on. If you’re out to buy a certain phone, for example the iPhone 6s Plus, and you won’t settle for an alternative, note it down.
Know your deals
When doing your research, start early and note down the usual prices for your must-have items. This way, you’ll know whether you’re getting the best deal on the day. Remember to make price comparisons between retailers too as this may give you some leverage for getting an even bigger discount at the till. If the store can’t make the price cheaper, they may throw in an extra as a sweetener- for example, free accessories for that iPhone 6s Plus you’ve had your eye on!
Start early
Many big stores begin their online offers as soon as midnight on Black Friday hits. Some may even begin rolling out their offers days before, so it’s well worth keeping an eye on their websites as Black Friday approaches. There are even searchable databases that can help you track deals and monitor recent prices to help you decide whether or not you’re making a good saving. In the rush to get the best deal, it’s easy to let your guard drop when it comes to online safety. It’s really important to remember to protect your details. Check that the sites you’re buying on are safe and reputable- nobody wants to wake up the day after Black Friday with an empty bank account but nothing to show for it!
The big day!
Now that you’ve prepared, planned and organised, it’s time to hit the shops. Head out as early as you can. With many bargain hunters queuing for hours to grab the best bargains, it isn’t very likely that you’ll beat the rush. You will however maximise your shopping time. Good planning extends to your Black Friday outfit. Dress comfortably; clothes you can move well in are a good choice. Think about layering so you can add and remove depending on the temperature. November can be freezing, but stores packed with people can be the exact opposite- being too hot does little for the sanity. Comfy footwear is a must- you’ll possibly be on your feet for hours, so don’t let achy feet be the reason you miss out on a great deal. Once you’re out of the door, list in hand, you can use the journey as your last opportunity to check those prices online.
Two’s company
Consider shopping with a friend. If there are two of you, you can cover a store in half the time on the lookout for bargains. This is where your planning comes in really handy- make two copies of your list so that your friend knows what to look out for. If you’re separated, the list will show what you’re unwilling to compromise on. If you both know exactly what the other needs, you won’t waste valuable time trying to find one another. You can also take turns to have a break and grab some refreshments for the two of you to maintain your energy levels.
With these tips, you’ll be able to shop til you drop- or at least until the last store closes! Your body might be exhausted once you’re done, but your sanity should be intact. Good luck and happy bargain hunting!
