Galway is the perfect combination of fun and natural beauty, which is why it’s one of the most popular Irish counties. There are tons of reasons for heading to Galway and here are just a few:

The Sky Road drive in Clifden has a reputation for being the best coastal drive in the whole of Ireland. It features a steep climb on the edge of the coast giving amazing views out across the bay and the many islands dotted about in the ocean.

Claddagh

You might have heard this name in terms of jewellery. The Claddagh ring was indeed designed here and known right across the globe. Claddagh was once a fishing village just outside the old city walls of Galway itself. It’s a popular tourist spot for those wishing to see the great views and sweeping bay, with many fishermen keeping up old traditions in the area.

Dunguaire Castle

Built in the 1500s, Dunguaire Castle lies on the shore of Galway Bay and gets its name from the Dun King of Guaire, the legendary Connacht king. The tower and defensive walls have been carefully restored and during summer, tourists are welcome to tour the grounds.

Corrib Princess

This is a boat that provides cruises up and down the glorious River Corrib and into the lake. This is a must for visitors to the county as it’s a great way to take in the best views of national monuments and historic sites at a leisurely pace along this incredibly scenic waterway. You’ll pass castles and areas of natural beauty, enjoy the tranquillity and get up close to the wildlife of the county. Arrive with Irish Airports and visit https://irelandwestairport.com/

Galway City at night is an experience and attraction in its own right and there truly is something for everyone. It boasts a laidback, friendly vibe with a lively music scene every night of the week. There is a sizeable student population, festivals, tourists and regular events that makes Galway City the Irish city that never sleeps.

The Aran Islands

There are three Aran Islands that sit at different points in the mouth of Galway Bay. What makes them unique is their geological formation, their historic value, cultural importance and linguistic significance. Gaelic is spoken here and all those born on the island are fully bilingual in Irish and English. Ferries can be taken from Galway and Clare.

Kylemore Abbey

Could this be the most romantic castle in Ireland? Kylemore Abbey can be found in Connemara and ranks as the number one tourist attraction in the West of Ireland. No visit to Galway is complete with a trip here, perfect for a family day out. You’ll discover beautiful Victorian gardens, countless photograph opportunities, wooded walks, heaps of history, impressive architecture and tours of the gardens.
