Flooring is a huge part of our home, so picking the best type and the nicest one is important to us all. Having the right flooring can alter the mood of a room and enhance the atmosphere. Seeing as it isn’t a purchase we make every month, we want to get it right. Below are some things to think about when deciding what’s best for your home.

What Purpose Does the Room Serve?

Both carpet and hard flooring are suitable for most rooms in your home. High-traffic areas such as halls and stairs will need a higher-quality carpet, and bedrooms not so much. Think of the type of atmosphere you want to create in that home. If it’s warm and cosy, then carpet could be the best option for you. If it’s down to cleaning ease and perhaps a modern look, then hard flooring might be better.

Pet Owner?

If you have pets or children, you’ll need something stain-resistant and hard-wearing. You can find both carpet and wood flooring that will provide these qualities for you. With so many options available to us now, it’s difficult to know what to do for the best. Some experts suggest getting samples from local showrooms so you can look for a good colour match and feel the texture of any flooring you’re looking to buy before you commit to that huge purchase.

Other things to consider are of course price and maintenance. Carpets generally tend to be a little less expensive but need more maintenance and come with a shorter life span. Hard flooring can last for a lifetime if it’s taken care of properly, and it can be sanded and re-finished if you need to restore its beauty or fancy a change. Comfort-wise most prefer carpet as it’s warm underfoot and acts as a cushion for little ones when they’re playing. It’s important to remember that you can add rugs to flooring for added comfort and warmth, so you can have it all.

Whatever choice you make, be sure to research your options and go to plenty of stores so you can make informed decisions.
